Mr. Oladeji murdered his wife two days ago. We lived in the same compound and they lived in the apartment next to mine. He had smashed her head with a pestle. I lost sleep because of this. Mrs Oladeji was a very nice woman and very beautiful too. The man loved his wife; the woman loved her husband and I have never seen them quarrel. How could their love turn sour? Was it because she had been unable to conceive after 3 years of marriage? Had he been bottling up anger within himself? Or did she have someone else and her husband had found out? My questions couldn’t get appropriate answers except speculations and theories.</div>

I was sad. I could hear him screaming as the police whisked him away. He sounded evil and psychotic. I hated him for it. I wanted to hurt him for what he had done.</div>

The world is evil and anything could happen. I knew the sky wouldn’t cringe at the brutality of man, it has seen the width and the depths of human cruelty.</div>

Monday seemed dreary because of what had happened, the dark clouds also aggravated my gloom. I couldn’t concentrate. I worked at the customer service section of a courier company. One needed a clear head and a stable mind to work in the customer service section something I lacked at the moment.</div>

The death of Mrs. Oladeji was reported in the news, Mr. Oladeji was said to be violent and <em>rabid </em>in the police custody biting anyone who came in contact with him and had been transferred to the psychiatric hospital at Yaba- the murder of his wife had probably turned him crazy. The story of Mrs. Oladeji’s murder trended on Facebook and Twitter; giving social media commentators something to chew. Online feminists wrote about the evils of the patriarchal system that had silenced and bounded women into subservience.</div>

I  took a break. I left my cubicle and headed for the mess room to get a cup of water. There I saw Cynthia of Accounts department and Hakeem of IT making out- lips locked. They separated as I stepped in. I ignored them as went to fetch water from the dispenser. Cynthia walk out of the room slightly embarrassed. It was the second time I was walking in on both of them. They’d be fired if the boss found out about the two of them. The boss was a staunch Christian- he made everyone believe that. And he’d probably axe me if he found out that I smoked two sticks of cigarette in the bathroom every day. He seemed to prefer morality to expertise.</div>

“I hope my secret is safe with you, Phil.” Hakeem said pocketing his hands.</div>

“We all have secrets; there is nothing to worry about.” I replied before putting the cup to my lips. I wasn’t a tattletale, I would have been hypocritical for me to rat him out.</div>

“I’m going to resign very soon. Just for her.”</div>

He was going to leave the job because of the big backside the chick had- damn Cynthia had a big arse, something to kill for not something to resign for. He was clearly not sensible though I couldn’t tell what connections he had because in a country like mine connections paved ways and opened doors.</div>

“That’s interesting.” I smiled at him.</div>

“Don’t you notice that some of our staffs are kinda sick today? Cough and catarrh… strange isn’t it.” Hakeem was the king of small talks and I didn’t feel like talking. I just came for a cup of water.</div>

“No, I didn’t notice anything like that.” I replied before turning to leave. I could feel his gaze burn through my back.</div>

A shrill cry from one of the cubicles startled me and slowed my long strides. The cry continued as I followed others towards the cubicle.</div>

I couldn’t see what was happening; my colleagues had crowded the scene.</div>

“What happened?” I asked Ifeanyi. His cubicle was beside mine.</div>

“<em>I know no o…</em>” he answered in his usual annoying drawl.</div>

There was another scream among the crowd. I caught a glimpse of blood on the face of someone.</div>

“YEEE! My hand, he bit me.” A woman screamed. There was a struggle within the crowd.</div>

I cursed under my breath as I hurried to get the HOD to report what was happening, Ifeanyi followed. There were more screams.</div>

“What the hell is happening?”</div>

There came another horrified scream.</div>

I got to the HOD’s door, the secretary was absent from her desk. I knocked the door twice then opened. The HOD’s huge back was turned to us. He was clawing at the wall behind his desk, and it appeared as if he was snarling. He was an eccentric man and could act crazy sometimes. Ifeanyi stepped from behind me. He had no chill. Before Ifeanyi reached the HOD, the big man had turned his head. He looked pale and his eyes had no iris. His yellow teeth were snapping.</div>

“Christ.”</div>

The HOD yanked Ifeanyi close clamping his teeth on Ifeanyi’s left cheek. He yelled in pains. I rushed over, I trying to pull Ifeanyi free. The HOD had pulled a chunk of flesh from Ifeanyi’s face. Blood poured from Ifeanyi’s lips as he screamed. My eyes widened in terror.</div>

The HOD let go of Ifeanyi as he chomped on the piece of flesh. We both stumbled to the floor and scrambled for the door.</div>

By the time we got to the passage, Ifeanyi’s blue shirt was already soaked with blood. I felt nauseous and dizzy for a moment. I had never seen so much blood.</div>

“Something strange is happening.” I said as I peeled off my blazers. Ifeanyi collapsed to the floor jerking wildly sputtering blood from his mouth. I cautiously stepped away from him.</div>

“Help…”</div>

I moved quickly to the hallway, I turned to see Ifeanyi on his feet, he too had no iris, green veins were visible under his fair skin and his movements were jerky. Ifeanyi was no longer human. He was soon joined by the monstrous HOD. I ran for the cubicle city which looked like was in chaos.</div>

Someone collided into me. I felt a sharp pain on my brow as I landed on my back. I groaned, several feet ran past me as I picked myself up. I hastily made for my cubicle rubbing my sore brow.</div>

I heard several screams. I was 10 meters away from my cubicle; I could see Mr. Ayeni’s mouth clamping the throat of a woman- Aramide- at my cubicle. She couldn’t scream as blood splattered, she kicked but there was no stopping the assault. I backed away. I was confused; I didn’t know what to do. My keys were in my cubicle.</div>

I was scared, for the second time in my life. My brain couldn’t process what was happening. Everything was escalating so fast. People were being mauled by other <em>people</em>. The horrified screams were chilling. I swallowed as my bowels threatened to give way.</div>

I needed my keys. I needed to get out of the building. The stairs was definitely a bad idea because it seemed everyone escaped through it. And among them could be someone who had turned like I had seen Ifeanyi. I couldn’t risk being attacked by those things.</div>

I made for the elevator at the end of the hall way pushing away one of the bloody faced assailants as she tried to grab me. Splashes of blood painted the floor and the walls. As I reached the elevator, power went out plunging me into deeper despair- oh my God, NEPA. There were people trapped in the elevator. I saw figures shuffling from the cubicle town about a dozen or more. I could hear several screams and cries for help from the stairwell. I dashed to the left towards the hallway that housed the Admin, Accounts, IT departments, the store as well as the boardroom and the MD’s office.</div>

Cold sweat trickled down my temple. I moved towards the MD’s office, blood streamed out beneath the door. I moved away quickly turning to the boardroom as more blood cuddling screams followed. The door was unlocked; I stepped in quickly crouching as soon as I entered. I locked the door.</div>

“Who’s that?” someone whispered. I crawled to the other side of the table to find the MD’s personal assistant Emeka, the lovers- Cynthia and Hakeem, Lanre and Banke of Admin, Ijeoma the cleaner and Peter also from customer service sitting on the carpeted floor of the boardroom. They were people I knew from a distance, except Hakeem and Peter with whom I had exchanged more than one word with.</div>

“It’s me.” I whispered my reply. They all looked scared. I was frightened too. The ladies had tears in their eyes and the men were visibly shaken and confused.</div>

“What is happening?” I asked. I wasn’t hoping to get any answer. Someone was scratching on the door.</div>

Peter lifted a finger to his mouth.</div>

The scratching continued for a minute before it stopped.</div>

“They want to come in.” Peter whispered. “We are safe here, for the mean time. Let’s be silent.”</div>

I looked over at Cynthia; she was sobbing as she frantically thumbed her phone frantically. Hakeem was staring at her with pity in his eyes as he held her hand whispering soothing words to her. Emeka was trying to make a call but it wasn’t going through. The networks were down. That moment I thought I should contact my family like everyone was doing. Then I realized that I left my phone in the cubicle. I was worried about my mother and my sister.</div>

“Christ Jesus…” Emeka grunted. “I’ve tried calling the police… no answer.”</div>

I looked over at Emeka, an obese man with a belly that shamed a pregnant woman’s. He mumbled something like a prayer. I scoffed. The police are a mess, I wasn’t too sure they could handle an issue like this. I had never seen them handling any issue except for collecting checkpoint ‘taxes’.</div>

“You are bleeding.” Lanre said pointing to the cut on my left brow.</div>

“It’s a small cut…” I said pressing a handkerchief on the spot.</div>

“I- we need to get out of here… How do we get out of here?” Banke sniffled. “I just saw my best friend get bitten to… my son and my husband- they need to know I’m fine.”</div>

She sobbed quietly.</div>

The board room became stuffy, there was no light. I opened the window only to see plumes of dark smoke swirling into the sky from different parts of the Allen Avenue, the dark clouds were dissipating. We heard screams of helpless people, and sporadic gunshots. Two helicopters buzzed over our building, more gunshots followed. There was real trouble on the streets.</div>

“It’s like a warzone down there.” Peter’s face became cloudy. His smiley face was gone. He was always happy- I mean I always see him happy and he was never depressed.</div>

“We need to get out of here.” Banke sobbed her makeup was soiled from the tears.</div>

“This is serious.” Lanre murmured cleaning his glasses. His hands were trembling.</div>

“Here is what I know; those people that bite are no longer humans- they once were but not anymore.” Peter said quietly as he removed his black tie. “When you get bitten you become one of <em>them</em>, I’d seen it. Just like zombies in the movies.”</div>

“Really?” Emeka scoffed rolling his eyes. “You guys are unbelievable.”</div>

I also saw it. Ifeanyi turned in about a minutes after he was bitten. That was all we knew for now. My mind was unsettled and unprepared for unexpected situations such as this.</div>

Of all horrors portrayed in Hollywood, zombie flicks were almost impossible. It couldn’t happen except in my dreams. In fact there was no scientific explanation for a zombie. Walking Dead’s explanation was limited, it only theorized about the reset of the brain after death. 28 weeks later, 28 days later and World War Z scenarios was not applicable in this case. I was lost… Nigerians like me never believed in the possibility of something like this happening. If this was a dream, I badly wanted to wake up.</div>

I paced to and fro, craving a stick of cigarette to calm my nerves.</div>

“<em>wetin we go kon do now… my mama dey house, she no well.</em>” Ijeoma sobbed wiping her tears with her sleeves. Blood stains were on the sole of her right slipper.</div>

“Don’t worry Ijeoma…” Peter comforted her with a hand on her shoulder.</div>

“It’s like you want to attract them here. Sit down now.” Emeka cautioned me. He was sweating. I glared at him momentarily, he cringed a little. He had forgotten that we were all equal and that for now, he was no longer the Personal Assistant to the Managing Director of <em>CRYSTAL Courier Services</em>.</div>

“We need to find a way out of here.” I said bringing my voice low.</div>

“You must be joking. Haven’t you seen what they are capable of?” Emeka retorted scoffing.</div>

I crouched facing everyone.</div>

“I know what they are capable of.” I replied, the images of Aramide and Ifeanyi flashed my mind. I was fucking scared.</div>

“Then let’s stay here.” Hakeem finally spoke. “It’s dangerous outside this place. They are everywhere.”</div>

“For how long… are we going to stay here till tomorrow?” Peter’s trembled. “We’ve got loved ones out there; we don’t even know what is happening out there.”</div>

Another dim scream interrupted. I swallowed, people were dying.</div>

“Jesus, save us.” Someone muttered.</div>

<b><br /></b>A night filled with darkness,no light no air,my breath was heavy,I was scared,it felt like my heart was making it’s way out of my body. Suddenly I saw an eye looking at me. Now my fear increased,’my mind is playing tricks on me’ (so I thought) but the more I looked into the eyes the more fear moved into my bones,mind and soul,so I closed my eyes and when I open it what I saw made me freeze<br />
A saw a dark hand reaching my heart (at this point I was lost both real life and in my soul)I quickly jumped up and what I saw was was was was a tall dark creature (but wait how did it get into my room,surely my doors were Perfectly closed and my roof had no opening it was well build) at this point I was dead I was not longer with my body I felt a strong feeling,my lungs were beating my chest like a drum set(well my whole body was dancing to the beat of fear)<br />
Then the creature looked at me and said ‘I AM YOUR END AND I AM HERE TO SEE YOU AND TO TAKE YOU AWAY’. It’s hand quickly grab my neck(at this point I was both alive and dead,the hair on my body all stood in shock my head was has if it was pumped because is was bigger than normality</div>

<b><br /></b>Its hand was too strong(surly it was not a human so it’s power was more than mine)it’s fingers cut deep into my neck,my vain cut so fast that I felt a sting in my neck,I lost the ability to shout,there was no blood going to my brain so I lost sight of everything going on around me.<br />
Suddenly blood began go drip from my nose,my life was now becoming more like a dust(I knew it was the end of me,but why are these creatures after me?,I surly didn’t kill anyone,I am a cool and gentle man,what could I have done wrong to invoke such creatures of darkness)my eyes began to close,I couldn’t fight back(its hold on me weaken me,my fingers were all frozen).<br />
The creature left hold of me and I dropped like a man with no life(but I still had little life in me. (hmmm I wonder why it didn’t finish me at once,maybe it wanted the other creature to eat me up alive). I was on the floor,blood coming from my nose,neck and now mouth and ears because of the way my head landed,my fingers were red and I couldn’t feel anything all over my body,I was a corpus laying down but the only difference was that I had little life<br />
The creature was watching me and waiting for me to pass out(to die completely) but the weird thing was that why didn’t it just finish me once,why did it want me to pass through all these pains and suffering?<br />
All I want now is just to die so that this pain will leave me……</div>

<b><br /></b>The creature pulled me by the leg,while the other was licking my blood that was on the floor(my house was well tiled and the ground was smooth),my parlour was lower than the rest of my house,so my head landed again with more force which made my skull crack a little<br />
I started bleeding uncontrollable but not too much(I am sure the other creature will be happy because there will be more blood to lick),it pushed my front door down and then it stood at the entrance of my house,with it’s hand still holding my leg(I don’t know why it stood there like it was expecting a taxi from the sky to pick us up,well I guess it stood there because it wanted me to feel the pain more and more each passing second).<br />
My house has an entrance staircase and it was made up to 5 levels(so you can imagine what happened to me),it pulled me with more force more than ever(menn this creature just hate me so much I think it’s real name is pain-giver),my head was like a song and the staircase was a hit back to back from first to the last,(anybody wey talk say e no pain me iyalaya).my skull was now an open pool of blood (but I don’t know how I managed to stay alive because the pain was too much and I lost so much blood)<br />
It pulled me until we got to the front of my gate,then it left hold of my leg. There was a little sharp stone on the floor which my leg landed on, It cut my leg vain,I couldn’t even feel it much because my brain was half way dead(menn the pain keep increasing each time I come closer to death).the two creatures commanded a door way to open and when it opened all I heard was the sound of lost souls and more pain and sorrow,only God knows what is in there,I hope it is not another nightmare……</div>

<b><br /></b>The two creature threw me into the door way,I landed with my back(menn at that point I felt worst than bad and life meant nothing to me)I couldn’t move my whole body,it was no more responding but my ear and heart were managing to keep up but I know they won’t survive because they don’t have much time,death is creeping in the dark concern waiting and longing for my soul.<br />
My face faced the left hand and I saw grave everywhere,billions and billions of graves all with people inside crying for help(well I knew there were people inside because I could hear people banging and screaming for help),some said ‘get me out of here’ some where begging,some were crying and it was very loud. Well I guess I was wrong when I hoped that the door way won’t be bad.<br />
The whole place smelled death,the ground were filled with decayed bodies, and maggots were everywhere,there was this disturbing smell I perceived but when I scrolled my eyeballs upward I saw a dead body.<br />
The body seemed to have decayed for 3weeks with an open stomach the expose internal organ .menn I wish I was not in that position,the opened,smelling and decayed stomach started dropping(menn I was in so much pain but menn that smell made me forget about everything and my concentration was on it)it drop and my face(thank God my face was not facing upward).damn! The maggots on it started dancing on my cheek,the watery substance flowed down to my mouth,’chia where is death oooo so that it can take me away from all this non sense’ I cried in my mind,it tasted like something that is far more worst than a vomit,excrete and decayed food all together.I couldn’t spit out,my tongue was a dry valley,I felt like vomiting but there was no food and no power to vomit(but well I have being vomiting blood since from other part of my body)the hanging intestine fell on my mouth and on my nose(menn na die I dey ooo) the maggots in the intestine are as many as the hair on my head.they started moving toward my mouth,I tried to blow them but I was too weak, they found their way into my mouth,damn it felt very bad.<br />
Suddenly they came,and the environment changed.I think my time to die has come and I pray it should come quicker than the speed of light……</div>

<b><br /></b>The creatures came close to me but I couldn’t see much because of the dead body parts on my face and some blood on my face.They started saying stuffs like’your time has come to die’,mehn I was so happy to hear that I felt so happy to hear death.<br />
the second creature pounced on me and tore my cloths then it started pilling off my flesh, it pilled every single flesh I had on my skin,I cried in pain,the pain I felt was more than that of a woman in labour and there was no soul or god to save me from my situation.my bleeding continued,and of course the creature kept on licking and eating my flesh right in front of me.<br />
Now I was a skinless goat and I knew my time was up,the first creature took me by the hair and threw me into an empty grave,hmmm I think that grave was already waiting for me to come,the grave was very deep, i dropped at the end of the deep grave like a bag filled with limestone .my face faced up and my my eyes met with that of the creatures and it scared me , the sand started falling into the grave to cover me up.i was Unclad and in pain and now I was gonna be buried alive.then suddenly……………..<br />
I woke up from my deep sleep,my heart rate was very high like a high tension wire,my chest was swollen,my hands and legs were shaking,fear was all over my whole body.i could still hear the sound of people crying for help,I could still feel pains all over my body,I was still afraid ,I still felt the taste of the maggots in my mouth,I could still feel sand on my body,I could still smell the dead body on my face<br />
I looked at my clock which was in front of my bed and it was 2:45AM then i looked to my left and right but couldn’t see anything.my room was kinda dark, the ac and fan was on,but I still sweat,my sweat was so much that it could fill a bucket, my bed was totally filled with my sweat,I think I might have urinated on my bed due to the excessive fear and torment i faced in my dream<br />
Then i said to myself ‘so The dream world can bring such anxiety to me,this is unbelievable,so nightmares are real?,i never knew it could be so scary,see what the nightmare made me do now, i and my bed smell like urine’.then i got up to change my cloths and take a shower,after the shower and changing of my clothes i went straight to clean up my bed because it smelled alot.after I did that I went to wash my hands then I went to the kitchen to drink water.<br />
when I got to the kitchen, I opened my chilled refrigerator,I looked in it to find water but couldn’t see, but then I saw my unfinished apple fruit juice,I smiled and took it,the fruit juice was sweet and cold,it chilled my whole system.<br />
I was about to leave the kitchen when the juice fell of my hand,then I bent down to pick it up.thank God it didn’t waste away I sang happy in me,so I went to the parlour to watch a movie because I couldn’t sleep.I sat on my soft sofa and reflexed.the tv remote was on top of the tv,so I went to get it and turn the tv on.<br />
the tv came on but it went off as I turned back to go and sit,it was funny to me because it has never done that before,so I switched it on again and it did the same thing,I tried it one more time and it finally came on.<br />
so I sat down to watch the tv then something dropped on my face,I was watery,it was weird because how can rain fall inside my house,then another dropped and another and another,I took a good look at it and it was blood!,now I was scared,I faced up and I saw my own body hanging,looking at me,it was the nightmare I had and it was real,everything that happened to me in the dream was right there in front of me,both the injury and the maggots and the fleshless body,I screamed!!!!!.the body dropped on my body and I continued screaming and screaming,the body held my neck and said <b>THE NIGHTMARE HAS JUST BEGAN ………………….THE END</b></div>

deeply,slow and trigger had been behaving very funny even before we left,i decided to wave it off as normal pressure which we all<br>

i hadn’t had enough time to finish that thought when I started hearing voices…. they were sounding faint…..i jerked up immediately<br>
from my bed…how could dis yeye force people have traced me here??? at least an army base was not too far away so I doubted dey would deem it fit to search here…..<br>
Adrenaline pumped in large<br>
quantities through my muscular body….. My senses heightened as I took deep breaths straining my ears to pick out what was happening…..<br>
picking up a small sachet from<br>
the table beside me,i took two tablets of epinephrine(synthetic adrenaline booster)<br>
and swallowed,a bad habit I had formed over the years that was somewhat an integral part of me now…  <br>
My eyes blazed red from lack of sleep as my feet touched the cold tiles beneath my feet.<br>
Counting the tiles from the door,i dislodged the fifth tile and brandished a volther p38 Russian<br>

So, those three things have to work in tandem, the security instrument, politics and development/economic approach.”</div>

Nigeria, nay Africa in general, value the issue of morality because it is embedded in their socio-cultural lives and this includes norms, values, taboos and beliefs. Juliet Chinasa, an actress who spoke with LEADERSHIP Sunday on immorality in Nigerian movies, stated that, “the world has changed and people are more interested in explicit content. They want to see beautiful women with beautiful bodies. Ours is still better because we don’t make love in movies or parade our nakedness. We just wear skimpy dresses and kiss once in a while. This does not mean we are immoral. After all, these things actually happen in secret, even the children know most of the things they see. It is up to parents to control what their children watch, ours is to entertain.”</div>

Another aspiring actor who spoke with LEADERSHIP Sunday is Anita Daniel and she said, “yes I want to be a star but I won’t expose my body to make it in Nollywood. Those who do it are desperadoes. It is against our beliefs and culture. In fact, my father will kill me if he sees me parading naked in films. He doesn’t even like Nigerian movies because of what he sees on TV. I won’t give him reason to ban me from acting.”</div>

Evangelist Peter Ali, who has produced two Christian movies stated that, “immorality in movies was what pushed me to the industry. I don’t like what I see in our secular films and I feel this is one way I can propagate the word of God. The youths need to know that you can watch a movie and enjoy it without learning bad things. The power of television has brought a lot of changes, some for good and some for bad and it is worse in the lives of the teenagers. I don’t like it when I see our movie actors act nude or half naked, smoke weed and also portray some funny behaviours; children watch and pick these habits. A director does not have to use such things to make his film sell. So, when you talk of censorship, it must start with self; that is the director himself must know what is right and wrong, what the society expects from him and what he will like to see his children watch and learn.</div>

There must be a desire to do the right thing without debasing or lowering the taste of the films. Movies to me are supposed to be channels of promoting societal values and norms. Most of these directors allow such things because they want to sell their movies. But it is not all about the money. If you notice, you will see that young people now believe in getting rich quick or die trying because that is what they see on TV. Another problem is that the actors themselves love wearing such clothes. On most sets, the producer and director don’t have a say over what the actors wear because theycdon’t have money to buy the kind of clothes they would want them to wear and so, they overlook such things.</div>

What I believe is that films are meant to educate, socialise and play a therapeutic role in the lives of the audience. Unfortunately, that is not the norm today as most of our movies are based on sex, violence, fetishism, occultism, voodoo, prostitution, sibling rivalry, evils of polygamy, devilish spiritualism and rituals or juju, black magic, sorcery, ritual murder, witchcraft, obscenity, kidnapping and money worship. It is wrong and the producers must stop it. They have the final say because if they don’t produce movies, the actor won’t become an actor. They should be the first censors before the actual censors board can come to play.”<br />Also speaking on the issue, a lecturer of mass communication, Abdullahi Garba also stated, “I am also worried over the content of our local movies.</div>

What these actors don’t understand is that some audiences hardly can differentiate the disparity between “on-the-screen” character and “off-the screen” character. Most times, they have the perception that the nude display in movies is the natural behaviour of their favourite actors. So, naturally, they want to emulate them. People in Africa attach much importance to dignity and respect in our culture but some local home videos seem to be stereotypical of lack of dignity for womanhood. For a good producer who is concerned with the content of his movies, he must know whether his movie has an educational or entertainment value, apart from promoting Nigerian culture, unity or interest, he or she must also ensure that the movie does not undermine national security, reinforce corruption, does not glorify violence and will not promote African heritage to ridicule. That the movie will not encourage illegal or criminal acts, religious and ethnic discrimination, blasphemy or obscenity nor indecent, or likely to be injurious to (public or private) morality or be filled with nakedness, half nakedness or other acts of nudity that appeal to sexual desire of viewers.</div>

When movies like Domitilla, Glamour Girls, Room 027 where an actor grabbed the boobs of the actress and the other actor was shown in scenes like making love to an actress are few examples among many others. It tells you that we are getting it wrong. Every producer must take into account the cultural disposition of our society before producing their movies. We must go back to the beginning where movies were produced to teach the society lessons, not to corrupt them. Parents must also restrict TV time and watch the movies before allowing their children to view it. Parents must also turn off the TV in the night or select channels that their children would watch even when they are not there.</div>

A cross-section of Nigerians opined that although the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON) have been mandated to issue out licenses, monitor, regulate and conduct research in broadcasting in Nigeria, the rate at which producers churn out X-rated movies that erode our values and beliefs have made their work more herculean. They are of the view that the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) must rise to the occasion and start enforcing laws while prosecuting those caught in the act.</div>

Pastor Timothy Goyit, a psychologist and pastor with Living Light And Truth Assembly in Masaka, Nasarawa State, contends that movies, whether Nigerian or foreign, that contain excessive amount of violence watched by children, can make them have less empathy; they will also want to use aggression to solve their problems than dialogue. Such people become less sensitive to the pain and suffering of others and may be harmful towards others. They are also more likely to hit people who annoy them, argue, disobey rules and leave tasks unfinished. But Jesus said in the book of Matthew 15:10, ‘it is not what enters into the mouth that defiles the man but what proceeds out of the mouth.’ On the case of nudity in movies, God himself made clothes for Adam and Eve so that they could be covered in (Gen. 3:21). So, why should we allow our actors and actresses to be exposing themselves on TV? Christians must reject public displays of nudity on television. The eye is the light of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye watches bad things, your whole body will be affected (Matt. 6:22-23). St Paul warns us that “Do not be deceived: ‘Bad company corrupts good morals’” (1 Cor. 15:33). When we watch nudity on TV, we expose ourselves to things that can make us sin.”</div>

Mallam Abdulazia Yahaya,  a Muslim cleric, also stated that, “television viewing is sinful in Islam, it is believed that there is no film that does not have music in it and Islam forbids listening to music. It is Kabirah (great) sin. The female voice in Islam, is Satar, it is to be concealed and men are not supposed to hear it. The Qur’an also states that, ‘and among mankind are those who purchase idle tales so as to lead astray (others) from the Path of Allah. And, they make a mockery of the Laws of Allah.’ Islam also forbids listening and watching fiction that will not let people live in reality to gain Allah’s Pleasure by fixing the gaze on the hereafter and not on the TV screen. Islam demands the concealment of the female body. The Messenger of Allah (SAW) further said that, ‘woman is an object of concealment, not an object of immorality and immodesty, we all know that movies show immodesty and immorality in them and The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “Shamelessness (immodesty) is vice, and vice will be in the fire”.</div>
